What is The Football Academy?
The Football Academy is a two-year, full-time education and football development programme delivered in partnership with professional and non-league football clubs.
Open to talented footballers aged between 16–18 years, the Academy Programme is a must for any football enthusiast.
A playing trial will be required as places will be offered based on playing ability.
Why join the Academy?
Gosport Borough Football Club's Academy has been running for four years with the simple aim of helping talented footballers make progress in their sporting careers whilst continuing with their academic studies.
The scheme enables young players to enjoy six hours of coaching by UEFA qualified coaches and competitive fixtures alongside their academic studies.
Gosport Borough have teams in the Conference Youth Alliance as well as the prestigious FA Youth Cup.
Who is the Scholarship Manager?
Tony Stares manages our Academy. A former Gosport Borough goalkeeper with over 300 appearances at Southern Premier League level, Tony is a UEFA "B" licensed coach and senior lecturer in higher education and qualified sport and leisure assessor.
Where will the Academy be held?
The Football Academy offers a unique opportunity for players to train and study in a vocational environment that will develop their academic and sporting performance.
The Football development programme and Academic studies will be based at Gosport Borough FC's Aerial Direct Stadium (Privett Park, Privett Road, Gosport PO12 3SX).
Here players will benefit from an excellent coaching and a dedicated classroom for academic studies.
What education programme will I study?
Over the two-year duration, players will study a variety of national recognised qualifications within the subject of sport, coaching and fitness.
Players will study the Diploma in Sport Level 3 (A-Level equivalent) together with core skills in Maths and English.
Successful completion of the educational programme will enable players to follow pathways into higher education at selected universities and employment opportunities within the sport and leisure industries, including coaching placements and playing scholarships in America.
Who will deliver the Education?
The club have linked with Essential Sports, a further education and work based training provider, who will be responsible for the management and Gosport Borough FC provide delivery of the educational element of the Academy.
The BTEC course offers a more personalised and vocational experience than main stream further education colleges.
What are the costs?
Both the football and educational element of the Academy is fully funded and therefore there is no cost to join the programme.
