BORO’ couldn’t quite snatch a point against the Magpies in the New Year’s Day fixture.
But it was close, with the boys almost turning the game on it’s head - scoring two late goals and very nearly a third in the dying minutes.
Gosport went into today’s game off the back of two consecutive wins in Christmas week, and were looking to build momentum going into a busy January period.
It didn’t start well and with just 20 minutes played the BORO’ found themselves two goals down, with Wimborne’s hot shot Toby Holmes scoring both for the home side.
Half Time Score - 2 - 0
Gosport needed a strong showing in the 2nd half and were pushing for a breakthrough,
when in the 62nd minute they fell further behind.
BORO’ keeper Patrick O’Flaherty did well to keep out a great shot from The Magpies Luke Holmes, but could not stop the follow up from Curtis Young .
3 - 0 to the home side with just under 30 minutes to go.
Recently Gosport have shown great spirit when they have gone behind and today was no exception.
With just over 15 minutes remaining of normal time, Gosport turned the game on it’s head by scoring twice within a five minute period, with substitute David Jerrard making the breakthrough closely followed by another goal for Ryan Pennery.
Gosport Borough tried to snatch a late equaliser, but despite going very close, couldn’t quite find a 3rd goal and ended the game empty handed.
We scored two at the Magpies - but no Joy this time.
