Gosport Borough FC would like to congratulate all of the Volunteers from Faith and Football who travelled to Northern Uganda, laden with donated kit from the BORO’ , Havant & Waterlooville and Pompey to run a 5 day football tournament, determined to use the power of football to unite the local communities.
Friend of the BORO’ and former Pompey favourite Mick Mellows who is now a Director for the charity, shared some of the highlights and fantastic pictures of the event with the club.
Thousands of refugees from South Sudan are pouring into the Northern Region of Uganda and mixing with the locals creating natural tensions, with living resources at a premium.
What better way to bring people together than a competitive football tournament, which proved to be just what thousands of the locals needed.
The 5 day ‘Peace and Unity Cup’ tournament, was played in front of crowds of excited supporters who turned out in fantastic numbers to support the charities tremendous efforts and cheer their team on.
Would you believe that the final turned out to be a tussle between a talented team wearing Gosport Borough kit and a fortunate team wearing Havant & Waterlooville kit!
The result is irrelevant as the goal of the tournament was the winner on the day - Peace & Unity for all.
Well done Mick and everyone from Faith and Football - Gosport Borough FC salutes you.
