Disappointing BORO’ Result - 3 Precious Points Lost

By GBFC Site Manager

Merthyr Town pile the pressure on Gosport after three goal away win.

After the previous weekend’s unexpected win over Salisbury, hopes were high going into Saturday’s game against the Martyrs.

The opportunity to climb out of the bottom three relegation spots, should have spurred the BORO’ on, and a fighting display was needed from everyone as we enter the crucial last few games of the season....but for some reason it all went wrong for a misfiring Gosport, who disappointed on the day and lost by three goals to nil.

Merthyr chose Saturday’s game to reverse their recent poor form and cruise to a comfortable win over the home team, to virtually end any lingering relegation worries of their own.

A scrambled goal by Ryan Prosser in the first half, followed by two further goals in the second half from Ian Traylor and Kieran Lewis did the damage, in a game that the Martyrs definitely deserved to win.

The worrying aspect from a BORO’ perspective, is that we ended up delivering one the most disappointing performances of the season in a game that meant so much!

The only piece of good fortune from the weekends results, was that Walton Casuals were eventually beaten to maintain the slender 2 point gap and remain BORO’s target to overhaul in the remaining three games.

We have to get something out of Saturday’s away trip to the already relegated Staines to take us into Bank Holiday Monday’s last home game of the season against Wimborne looking to secure our league status - providing other results go our way.

The last Saturday of the season will see Walton travel to Merthyr and the BORO’ travel to Met Police - both difficult games!

Come on the BORO’

Gosport’s team: O’Flaherty, Medway, Read, Roberts, Casey, Harding, Lanahan, Pennery, McAllister, Sekajja

Subs: Tubbs, Barker, Byrne, Lea, Hoare
