GBFC were pleased to welcome Ashley Brown and James Mathie from Supporters Direct, an organisation which act as the umbrella to supporters trusts across the country and works with all community owned football clubs.
Ashley and James talked about the importance of football clubs to their communities and how fans are the life blood of every club in the country.
They gave some background of how clubs can better engage with their fans and communities and how supporter ownership can be successful at GBFC’s level.
Iain McInnes had earlier talked about the importance of fans buying into the GBFC journey with him and how he foresaw a future where the club could benefit from improved facilities for use by the whole community and a club which no longer required him and could be owned by the fans.
Ashley and James explained how the first step for supporters must be to formulate themselves into a supporters trust or other recognised entity, something they have assisted with many times before and are happy to assist with at Gosport.
A number of fans present expressed an immediate interest in being involved and willing to attend a further session to begin this process.
Any other fans who might be interested to participate in working to form a democratic supporters group at GBFC should get in touch with Ashley and James who will find an appropriate date to return to the Boro.
Supporters Direct alongside the Football Supporters Federation is part of the Unified Football Supporters Organisation.
