In Saturday’s second battle of the nations, Merthyr Town travelled down to a wet and windy south coast.
Borough started the game with great confidence, running at The Martyr’s defence with great pace. However after ten minutes, Merthyr started to show some authority with Ian Taylor dominating The Boro’s box then finding his shot saved.
After twenty minutes the Welsh side's dominance begun to prevail and after a series of corners, Corey Jenkins found himself with the ball outside the box. His effort slipped through the keepers hands to give the visitors the lead.
The hearts of Gosport faithful begun to brake with their side seemingly losing touch. The Martyrs maintained a strong defensive line, seeing away anything the home side three at them.
The second half began very much like the first with Gosport coming out strong with a series of shots on goal showing real intent especially with the link up play between Craig McAllister and new signing Ryan Pennery.
With just ten minutes left, Gosport really turned on the heat and a minute later they had their reward as Boro' caused immense panic in Town’s box. After several attempts at goal, McAllister’s effect struck the keeper and landed at the feet of Stephane Bombelenga and the striker made no mistake slotting the ball into an empty net.
