Joe Oastler leaves Borough

6 months ago By Jeremy Fox

Boro's captain has had his contract cancelled by mutual consent and has said farewell to the club and its supporters.

Joe Oastler has today announced his departure from Gosport Borough after reaching agreement with the club to have his contract terminated.

The experienced Portsmouth based defender joined the club from Aldershot last summer and was quickly appointed as captain.

But his season wearing the armband was a turbulent one beset with problems on and off the field which ended with Boro's relegation from the National South to either the Ryman or Southern Premier Division.

He released a statement this evening explaining the reasons for his departure.

"The decision suited me and the club. I have a strong desire to play as high as I can and this gives me a opportunity to do that following the club's relegation," he said.

"On a personal note, getting back to full fitness was important to me having had to drop out of full time football. Playing 50 games, I believe I have achieved this.

"Looking forward now, I'm ready for a new challenge. After suffering a tough year on and off the pitch, I'm desperate to have a successful year wherever that may be.

"I'd like to say thank you to Tony, Craig and the Academy players. I thoroughly enjoyed coaching and working with them which may continue into the future. Also thanks to the fans who have supported the club through some tough times. I wish the club well for the future."

Gosport Borough Football Club would like to place on record its gratitude for Joe's service an wish him the very best for the future.
