Gosport Borough travelled to Kent based side Sittingbourne F.C. for their emirates FA cup match with Sittingbourne being in the league below (Bostik League), hoping they could cause an upset.
The first half starting with Sittingbourne having a couple chances, Boro' riding the pressure. Gosport Borough replied with their own chances, including a chance that lead to Tony Lee rattling the crossbar with a bullet header. The first half came to a close with both teams potentially being able to take the lead and both teams coming out for a poised second half looking to score that decisive goal to give either side the edge.
The second half got underway, it only taking 7 minutes for the biggest point within the game, Ryan Pennery gets bundled to the ground and the referee blows for a penalty. It was also Gosport Borough's top scorer that stepped to take the penalty and it was a cooly taken finish low into right side of the goal that gave Gosport the lead and Boro' a little bit of breathing space.
A miss for Boro', a tackle between Matt Casey and a Sittingbourne player left the on-loan Pompey defender in a bad place, injuring his arm and meant he needed hospital treatment. Another Boro' player that got hurt in the game but came out better was Pennery, getting a face full of the oncoming goal kick at full speed leaving him holding his face off the pitch.
It was a nervous few minutes for the Boro', both teams giving their all to try and force the game but it was Boro' that prevailed and it was shown that the end of the game, the passion and togetherness that the Gosport Borough players felt, knowing they were going into the next stage.
