Under 12 Yellows crowned champions

Borough's U12 Yellows have won Division 3 of the Portsmouth Youth League

The decision by the league to enter the U12 Yellows into Division 3 was disappointing as the management was convinced at the beginning of the season that they had been put into the wrong division.

This proved to be accurate and although the team faced some tight games, they battled and played professionally throughout as they still had a job to do.

The league started with a tough game away to Clanfield but week after week, their performances produced some fantastic results as the team was gelling and getting used to the first competitive season.

11/09/2016 Downfield - won 3-0
25/09/2016 Skilful Sports - won 3-1
02/10/2016 Meon Milton - won 15-1
09/10/2016 Phoenix - won 16-0
16/10/2016 Whiteley - won 3-1
23/10/2016 United Services - won 3-0
13/11/2016 Skilful Sports - won 3-0
04/12/2016 Cowplain - won 7-5

Since end of 2016 only two games have been played but the team has continued in the strong way they ended 2016.

Following the return Clanfield game the league was wrapped up and the Yellows were crowned champions.

However, they face a very frustrating end to the season with three games remaining thanks to postponement meaning the season's conclusion is delayed

08/01/2017 Cowplain - won 8-1
12/02/2017 Clanfield - won 4-0

The Yellows had an excellent game in the Hampshire Cup against Basingstoke Colts which disappointingly ended in a 4-3 defeat.

The Portsmouth League Cup began with a game against Meon Milton with the Yellows coming out 11-1 winners.

The next round pitted the squad against Portchester Royals from the League and a slow start allowed The Royals to race into a four goal lead.

A better second half performance from The Boro' failed to break down their opponents in which proved to be only their second defeat of the season.

With the versatility within rthe team, the squad can look forward to celebrating their achievements and to working hard in pre-season to prepare themselves for their first season as an 11-a-side team.

Many new challenges face the team but it is one that the management team of Pete Johns and Dave Matthews relish.

The team numbers 14 cracking players but as with any squad they need to recruit at least two more players to the squad - players that will challenge the current squad and make an impact to ensure that the expected promotion to Division 2 will be as successful as this season.

Pete Johns is currently a Level 1 coach and is on his way to qualifying at Level 2. Dave Matthews will begin his Level 1 in May.

As always, the management and players have to thank their sponsor GMT CNC Machining and all the parents as well as the committee who work all season round to ensure the smooth running of the teams. Without you all our teams could not run.
