After two successive away defeats, the BORO’ needed a home win to set them up for a busy bank holiday programme.
The sun was certainly shining on Privett Park, for this BetVictor Southern Premier League South fixture against a strong and confident Hendon.
With the Victorious Festival a magnet for many, a very decent crowd turned up to cheer the boys onto a valuable 3 points.
The game started well for the BORO’ and Williams was looking dangerous marauding down the left flank and his cross on the run was met by Patterson who’s glancing header agonisingly went narrowly wide.
Sadly Rory had picked up a knock and had to come off in the 19th minute, to be replaced by Alex Lafleur.
The rest of the half saw very few chances for both sides and frustrations grew, and a touch line tussle just before half time, saw both Mike Carter and Hendon’s Calcutt given yellow cards.
The first half ended all square 0 - 0
It wasn’t long into the second half before Captain Carter was on the end of a late tackle from Corcoran, that resulted in another yellow card for the battling Hendon outfit.
The breakthrough came for Gosport on 56 minutes, when George Barker started twisting and turning in the visitors penalty box before steering a low shot in off the post to give BORO’ the advantage 1 - 0
Two further substitutions for Gosport with Sam Argent coming on for Paterson and Ridge making way for Robinson, saw BORO’ chasing a second goal that would secure the points.
Despite a great effort from Theo Lewis who got on the end of a piece of magic from Robbo, but couldn’t direct his flashed header goal wards, the game ended with a narrow victory for Gosport
Full time: 1 - 0
The BORO’ will be looking to build on this victory in their Bank Holiday Monday away fixture against Hartley Wintney kick off 3pm.
