Gosport Borough went into last night's game knowing that they had to be at their best to match title challengers Weymouth FC.
Just before the game was due to start the weather turned wintry, and Privett Park was soaked by persistent rain and sleet which although never putting the game at risk, made the playing surface very wet & slippery but both sets of players coped well with the challenging conditions.
After player/manager Craig McAllister's relegation battle cry to his players before the game, BORO' started the game well and their high tempo approach encouraged the hard core fans that had braved the elements to support their team.
Weymouth full of slick passing and with pace down both flanks were living up to their high league position, but Gosport were matching their work rate & causing problems for the visitors.
It was looking like a goalless 1st half which would have suited the BORO', but on the stroke of half time Weymouth's Harry Baker lost his man and shot past Pat O'Flaherty into the bottom corner.
Half time 0 - 1
Gosport tried to go again early in the second half and continued to battle for everything...but a killer goal for the Terras on 55 minutes increased the pressure on the home side.
Harry Baker got the final touch to stretch Weymouth's lead - 2 nil to the visitors.
Gosport Borough could easily have folded, but for the rest of the game the BORO' boys continued to fight for everything and had efforts from Davis & Penners that just wouldn't go in.
The game ended with BORO' losing by two goals to nil, which puts more pressure on the team, but they can be encouraged by the effort from all the players.
Full time 0 - 2
