Lee Molyneaux’s managerial career, got off to a flying start against joint title favourites Taunton Town.

Ferocious winds swept across Privett Park for much of the build up to this first game, of the eagerly anticipated new season, and made for difficult conditions for both teams throughout the game.

Lee Molyneaux has made it clear that we will need our full squad to play their part in the coming weeks and months, and today’s starting eleven were picked to carry out his game plan ....and carry it out they did.

This opening day victory was the result of hard work and a disciplined display from all the BORO’ boys, who stuck to the plan and didn’t let the weather conditions dictate the result.

Gosport started the game in determined mood with the mercurial Rory Williams a constant threat down the left flank, and it wasn’t long before one of the chances created was converted with Theo Lewis scoring the first goal of the campaign on four minutes...1 - 0 to the BORO’

Tackles were flying in from both teams in a very competitive game, and it leads to the first booking of the day for the peacocks Chamberlain for a challenge on BORO’s Matt Partridge in the 27th minute.

Partridge is replaced by Charlie Kennedy on 38 minutes and he slots into the Gosport for like.

The BORO’ go in at half time one goal to the good.

Half time 1 - 0

The second half gives the visitors the wind advantage and they create a few chances, but to no avail, and disaster strikes on 63 minutes when Chamberlain is shown a red card for a second yellow card offence after pulling back George Barker.

Shortly after Barker scores the BORO’s second goal after good work by Sam Argent.. 2 - 0

Gosport Borough make their intentions known by replacing Barker & Whittingham with even more attacking threat from Paterson and Ridge as they look to secure the all important 3 points.

Paterson links up with Arg and causes Taunton all sorts of problems, but it’s Marley Ridge who kills the game in the final minutes with a cracking finish.

Final score 3 - 0

Gosport team: O’Flaherty, Lea, Carter, Woodford, Roberts, Lewis, Argent, Barker, Partridge, Williams, Whittingham.

Subs: Paterson, Walker-Harris, Kennedy, Ridge, Huggins.

We go again away on Tuesday night at Salisbury - kick off 7:45
